Mühldorfer acquires organic wet food manufacturer Herrmann GmbH

The Mühldorfer Group acquires Herrmann GmbH, Europe’s largest manufacturer of organic wet food, thereby specifically strengthening its production capacities in dog and cat food. Herrmann contributes above all expertise and modern facilities for flexible organic and conventional wet food production. Especially for the private-label business, Herrmann is expected to further strengthen the Group as an integrated manufacturer and supplier.

Next step in internationalization: acquisition of the animal nutrition and health-care group Greenfarm in Spain

With the full acquisition of the Spanish Greenfarm Group as part of a share deal, we welcome two strong companies to Mühldorfer: Grupo Omega, a specialist in premixes, and PROVESA SL, an expert in distribution and logistics in the field of animal health. This marks another significant step toward internationalization for our group of companies.

Acquisition of the wild bird feed producer GEVO GmbH to further expand the “Horse & Farming” segments within the business unit

In July 2025, 100% of the East Frisian wild bird feed specialist GEVO GmbH, based in Leer, was acquired as part of a share deal. Targeted investments will develop GEVO into a leading European supplier of wild bird feed. The modern, scalable production site and committed local team provide ideal conditions for this — both technologically and in terms of personnel.

Mühldorfer acquires the tradition-rich Vilstalmühle

Acquisition of 100% of the shares in Vilstalmühle GmbH & Co. KG in Vilsbiburg. This enables the Mühldorfer Group to secure the continued existence of one of Germany’s oldest manufacturing businesses while also strengthening its expertise in the development and production of specialty feeds for various animal species.

Pet Brand of the Year 2024 “BeG Buddy” under the umbrella of Mühldorfer Nutrition AG

Through the acquisition — a share deal involving the purchase of 100% of the shares — of BeG Buddy GmbH, we have taken another growth step and added a young brand to our own-brand portfolio that significantly strengthens the “Pet” business segment. Acquisition of a significant stake in Austria Pet Food GmbH in Pöttelsdorf / Burgenland (APF)

To place the already intensive cooperation on stable footing for the future, Mühldorfer Nutrition AG is taking a stake in APF GmbH through an investment in the multi-million-euro range. This step creates a major player in the international wet pet food market, with what is already Europe’s most modern and efficient pet food plant.

Mühldorfer AG is continuing consistently along its chosen path of extending value chains in order to become an even more substantial and relevant production partner in the pet sector.

This is a perfect addition to Mühldorfer AG’s portfolio, both in terms of even stronger customer orientation and maximum production efficiency, helping to further improve its standing in the pet food market.

Decision to expand and extend the Pöttelsdorf site of APF

To strongly counteract shortages in the wet pet food sector, Mühldorfer Nutrition AG and Austria Petfood GmbH (APF) will jointly invest in a new wet food plant in Burgenland, Austria. Existing capacity will be expanded by 100,000 tonnes of AllMeat products per year. Investment volume: approximately €40 million.

Asset deal / acquisition of the beekeeping wholesale business of Benjamin Keil / Bexbach

Integration of this business area into Mühldorfer AG.

This rounds off the strongly growing home-farming segment all the way into beekeeping. With innovative marketing ideas for specialist retailers, beekeeping now becomes part of the “My Little Farm” concept.

Transfer of the shares in Passek GmbH from Mühldorfer Pet GmbH into Mühldorfer Nutrition AG in order to establish a clear structure for the business areas and optimize internal processes.

Mühldorfer acquires the traditional SPEED brand and makes this long-established cornerstone of performance-oriented horse nutrition fit for the future. The brand is being further developed with the highest level of “horse sense”. New impulses, creative ideas and strong innovative power, as well as the origins, values and tradition of SPEED, are being incorporated into the realignment.

With the acquisition of the SPEED brand, Mühldorfer AG creates an attractive product range focused particularly on presence and growth in specialist brick-and-mortar retail.

As a result, we now operate even more efficiently throughout the German-Austrian region. This integration also brought additional brands, such as Sissi & Franz, and business areas into our company.

As part of an asset deal, we acquired Trilus in Thedinghausen. Under the “Jeggo” brand, Trilus manufactures and distributes innovative pet products for dogs and cats. The range consists of baskets and beds, collars, leashes, care products and much more. Jeggo stands for high-quality and fashionable products with a focus on functionality and careful workmanship.

With the Trilus range, our company continues consistently toward the pet market in order to develop the “Horse” and “Pet” pillars in parallel, thereby offering retailers an increasingly attractive and broader assortment.

With the commissioning of our fulfillment center, we offer our B2B customers the “one” optimal shopping basket and even better services around product portfolio and logistics. We are supported by completely new software that manages more than 8,000 items and over 12,000 pallet spaces, handling efficient storage, retrieval and order picking.

The eighth location overall and third location in Mühldorf provides room for further growth, both for Mühldorfer AG and for the entire Mühldorfer Group.

The Mühldorf location was expanded and strengthened through an investment in the millions. Our new logistics center in particular is an important building block for continued growth. More than 4,000 pallet spaces help us deliver to our customers efficiently and as error-free as possible.

Mühldorfer AG, through its subsidiary Soultec Petcare GmbH, takes over the activities of Boswelia GmbH in Asbach-Bäumenheim, Swabia. Boswelia GmbH is known as a manufacturer of particularly high-quality and healthy dog and cat food. The location and employees remain in Swabia. This step is the logical continuation of diversification into the Pet and Horse segments.

With the well-established Boswelia name, this is also another step for us toward becoming a “brand” in the pet food sector.

Extensive investments in the seven-figure euro range are made in order to remain a leader in horse-feed production. The new systems make it possible to ensure even greater quality and flexibility in the production of high-quality specialty feeds. The revenue of the entire group of companies breaks through a barrier long thought impossible.

The “care products” segment continues to grow strongly, making it necessary to create new capacity. In the immediate vicinity of the company headquarters in Mühldorf, we move into a newly built property with two additional production lines. We are now able to respond even faster and more flexibly to customer requirements in the area of care for animals and equipment. 2015 was a very successful and high-growth year.

The shares are once again held 100% by Klaus Mittermeier; Alfons Mittermeier exits as a shareholder. Parts of the share package are transferred to Nikolaus Mittermeier Holding GmbH. The veterinary activities are spun off into a new company: Valetumed GmbH, based in Mühldorf. Our company’s products are now available from more than 3,000 distribution partners and in more than 40 countries, from Scandinavia and the Middle East to China and Japan.

Our company now employs more than 100 people.

Acquisition of SiLe Chemie in Neuötting. All employees are retained, and the location initially remains in place. Diversification is thereby continued. The company is now able to produce care products for animals and equipment as well as stable hygiene products.

In the following years, cooperation and interconnections with the company’s own subsidiaries and shareholdings, as well as with competitors, are deepened. For major and important customers, category management for certain areas — especially, of course, the “horse” segment — is taken over as a service. Alfons Mittermeier steps down from the management board.

Relocation to Mühldorf. After the company outgrows its premises in Obertaufkirchen, parts of production and, above all, the entire logistics operation, research & development, administration, executive management and warehousing are moved to an approximately 12,000 m² site in Mühldorf. The modern, light-filled building is now the headquarters of Mühldorfer Nutrition AG.

The company also enters the pet food sector: diversification into dogs, cats and rodents is intended to make the company’s foundation more stable and less dependent on economic cycles.

To adapt the structures to the size of the company, the sole proprietorship Mühldorfer Pferdefutter Klaus Mittermeier e.K. is converted into a stock corporation. The new name: Mühldorfer Nutrition AG. The management board consists of Klaus and Alfons Mittermeier. Subsidiaries and shareholdings are now also placed under the umbrella of the company. The shareholders are now 100% the brothers Klaus and Alfons Mittermeier.

To meet demand for organic products and open up new market segments, a feed mill exclusively for organic production is set up in Oberbergkirchen.

Space is once again insufficient, so another location is opened in Obertaufkirchen on Haager Straße. There are also two external warehouses. The range now includes around 150 products. Entry into the fulfillment sector. The company is growing quickly; around 25 employees are kept busy.

Entry into contract manufacturing. The first two customers in the private-label sector are acquired, including the market leader in the horse segment.

The office is also moved to Obertaufkirchen.

Alfons Mittermeier, Klaus’s brother, starts working in the company and initially mainly takes care of exports. Klaus Mittermeier finds an ideal property in Obertaufkirchen for relocating and expanding production.

By now, a total of six employees are employed.

Klaus Mittermeier decides to run his horse farm in Vogging only as a side business and to focus entirely on the production of horse feed. To do this, he founds the company Mühldorfer Pferdefutter Klaus Mittermeier e.K. on July 1, 2003. The office is set up in a prestigious building in Waldkraiburg.

By chance, Klaus Mittermeier finds an empty grain warehouse near Mühldorf. Here, production is placed on a stable footing for the first time. A feed mill is built there using simple means.

In 2000, the first truck is purchased and the first employee is hired.

Sales now include 10 feed retailers, 2 importers and 30 equestrian stores.

The range includes around 15 products. The first vitamin mixes and supplements are also distributed.

First exports to Austria and Czechia.

Each month, around 100 sacks of horse feed are produced in cooperation with a partner and delivered to the first customers in very small quantities by private car.

The young farmer Klaus Mittermeier cannot find feed for his horses that is healthy and produced without so-called “by-products”. He therefore carries out initial experiments on his horse farm in Vogging to produce horse feed on a 100% natural and healthy basis. The name has already been chosen: Mühldorfer Pferdefutter, and the logo is also already being designed. The two stallions are kept in Klaus Mittermeier’s stable and are stylized for the logo.
